This archival reissue of California 1980s pop band The Tickets is one of those rare unsolicited surprises that shows up in my mailbox from time to time. This CD comprises the "She Got Away" 7-inch (1986, a lesser-known gem composed by Katrina Leskanich, of The Waves fame) and the cassette-only The Tickets Make A Record (1990). The opening numbers ("Our Two Hearts" and "Dream About Me"), as well as "Heartland" are super-catchy jangle-pop suggesting a debt to The dB's that is probably still unpaid. Kudos to Walter Clevenger for remixing and remastering the recordings for CD. Hopefully, more folks will now be exposed to this long-forgotten power pop release. -EDWARD BURCH
